The variety forms dense, tender and crisp heads with a diameter of about 30 cm. The leaves are wine-red in color, darkening towards maturity; stems and the underside of the leaves have a pink hue. The period from germination to harvest is 50–65 days when sown directly into the soil or 40–45 days using the seedling method.
The plant possesses adaptability to various growing conditions and is not prone to early bolting. The variety is an heirloom French variety and is often mentioned as a synonym for «Merveille des Quatre Saisons» («Marvel of the Four Seasons»).
