The variety belongs to the romaine group (Lactuca sativa var. longifolia) and has been known since the beginning of the 20th century. The period from sowing to harvest is 70–90 days. The plant forms a large elongated head, the leaves have a light green shade, a tender juicy texture and are suitable both for fresh consumption and for braising.
The plant is characterized by vigorous growth, productivity and high resistance to bolting. Despite the presence of the word «Chicon» in the name, the variety botanically belongs to lettuce, not to chicory.
