The Joplin variety belongs to the Romaine type and is characterized by medium-thickness leaves with a weak to medium degree of blistering and medium gloss on the upper side. The leaves are distinguished by a high intensity of brownish-anthocyanin coloration.
The plant possesses resistance to downy mildew isolates Bl: 16EU, 29EU, 36EU and high resistance to tip burn. The variety does not possess resistance to Bl: 33EU, 35EU isolates, lettuce mosaic virus, and the Nr: 0 biotype of the currant-lettuce aphid.
The variety is adapted to intensive automated cultivation systems and is optimal for the production of 'teen leaf' type produce.
