The variety belongs to the species Lactuca sativa var. crispa (leaf/curly lettuce). It has an average rosette diameter and in the mid-1990s served as a standard for describing new lettuce varieties.
In breeding practice, the variety is used as base genetic material, including for developing varieties with red leaf coloration. It is also mentioned in the context of research on resistance to lettuce mosaic virus.
