The variety is an open-pollinated plant. Morphologically, it is characterized by the presence of curly, fringed leaf margins, a short core, and the formation of dense heads.
In its characteristics, the variety is similar to the Great Lakes type, in particular to the variety Great Lakes Mesa 659. It was intended for cultivation in Colorado and the southern part of the Salinas Valley in California. The originator did not claim resistance to specific diseases.
