The Roden variety and its variation Dark Roden belong to the Batavia type. The plants do not form heads, instead forming a rosette of succulent, blistered leaves with a wavy edge. The leaves of the Roden variety are dark red, while those of Dark Roden are a saturated dark red, almost black in the sun.
The vegetation period is 30–40 days. The variety is intended for spring and autumn sowing, characterized by resistance to bolting and tolerance to heat. It is suitable for cultivation in garden beds and containers, used fresh and for salad mixes.
