The name Saladin is found in scientific literature as the name of a classic model lettuce variety used in comparative studies and experiments to investigate the root system and resistance to diseases, in particular to Botrytis cinerea.
On the seed market, this variety is presented by a number of companies as an Iceberg head type. The existence of the name Saladin also causes confusion with a cucumber hybrid under the same name.
