The plant forms fairly large and compact heads. The leaves have a buttery taste and a characteristic decorative color: small scarlet dots are located on a pale green background, which is why the variety is sometimes called strawberry lettuce.
The variety is intended for cultivation in open field. It is a non-hybrid variety and does not possess traits characteristic of industrial mass production. Historical mentions of the variety are found in catalogs from the beginning of the 20th century.
