The Surfside variety belongs to the "Oakleaf" type and is characterized by a dark green leaf color. The plant has an upright habit and a narrow base, which ensures excellent weight, a crunchy texture, and simplifies the harvesting process.
The variety possesses high resistance (HR) to downy mildew (Bremia lactucae, races Bl:16–36EU / 1–9US) and currant-lettuce aphid (Nasonovia ribisnigri, race Nr:0). Intermediate resistance (IR) to lettuce mosaic virus (LMV:1) is also noted.
