The Andes variety is a cultivar of the genus Leucocoryne, known in the trade as Glory of the Sun. The plant reaches a height of 38–40 to 45–50 cm and forms umbellate inflorescences of several star-shaped flowers.
The flowers have lavender petals with a purple spot and a yellow center. The grassy foliage has a characteristic slight smell of garlic and often begins to die back by the start of the flowering period, which occurs in the spring-summer season.
The crop is thermophilic, frost resistance is limited (zone 10 or down to -12 °C). The plant requires sunny areas, well-drained soil, and an obligatory rest period in dry conditions after the end of the growing season.
