The Chorus Magenta variety is a perennial plant, which in commercial practice is often cultivated as an annual or biennial. The flower stalks reach 60–70 cm in height. Each branched inflorescence contains from 400 to 800 flowers, opening acropetally, with about 50 flowers open at any one time.
The purple-light-violet flowers are scentless. Papery calyxes about 15 mm in diameter retain their shape and color after the petals wilt, allowing the inflorescences to be used in dried form. When cut, the plant is sensitive to post-harvest treatment methods, requiring the use of sucrose and wetting agents to extend its ornamental life.
The variety is relatively resistant to diseases and pests, but is susceptible to infection by the pathogen Phomopsis limonii, which causes stem canker. During hot periods, plants can be damaged by thrips.
The right is granted for a limited term: propagation of the variety requires a license from the rights holder.
