The Açores variety belongs to the species Lolium multiflorum subsp. italicum and is characterized by a diploid chromosome set (2n). Plants reach a height of 60–80 cm and are distinguished by medium-late maturation terms.
The crop demonstrates high productivity in terms of biomass quality and quantity, as well as optimal digestibility indicators. The variety is resistant to rust and Xanthomonas and is well adapted to the Atlantic climate.
It is used as a forage crop for obtaining green mass, hay, or silage. The variety is suitable for pasture use provided that rotational grazing is practiced, which ensures full regrowth of the herbage.
