The Russian-bred variety Rapido is a representative of annual ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam. var. westerwoldicum Wittm.). It was developed at the Williams Fodder Research Institute via experimental polyploidy and mass selection from the variety Moskovskiy 74. The plant possesses an erect, dense tiller, exhibits resistance to major diseases and pests, and dry matter yield reaches 8–9 t/ha.

In international practice, seeds from the Lolium multiflorum group characterized by rapid growth and early first-cut dates also appear under the commercial name Rapido. The variety is used both for green fodder and hay production and for the formation of turf covers requiring rapid sod recovery.
