The variety «Brigantia» is the result of the selection of Galician ecotypes from northwestern Spain. It is a loose-tufted grass that forms a dense sod, with narrow leaves characteristic of the species, possessing a gloss on the underside.

The plant is used as a forage crop for establishing pastures and hay meadows, often in mixtures with legumes, for example, white clover. The variety is adapted to the humid climate conditions of northern Spain and has been evaluated for nutritional value as a high-quality forage grass.
