The variety Piast was obtained by crossing the varieties Sum and Melzer. The plant belongs to forage forms, the seeds of which contain a significant amount of plant protein and are suitable for industrial processing, in particular, for use in the rations of farm animals.
During studies, the variety showed resistance to Fusarium infection and good lodging resistance. In addition, the presence of polyphenols possessing antimicrobial properties was studied in the composition of the plant.
