The variety is a compact shrub 0.8–1.0 m tall, sometimes reaching 1.2 m. The main morphological feature is narrow, soft, pinnate-compound leaves that lack thorns. In appearance, the foliage resembles bamboo or fern.
Flowering occurs from August to October; the bright yellow flowers are collected in upright inflorescences. After flowering, fruits develop in the form of blue berries that ripen by the winter period.
The plant belongs to USDA hardiness zones 7–9 and is characterized by high shade tolerance, performing well in both partial shade and full shade. The shrub is low-maintenance and intended for decorative use in gardens, border plantings, and containers.
