Variety description

The shrub is upright, compact, reaching a height of 0.7–1.5 m and a width of 0.6–1.0 m. Leaves are evergreen, leathery, shiny, and resemble holly leaves in shape; new growth has a reddish tint. Flowering lasts from August to November; the 10–15 cm long racemes consist of orange-red buds and yellow-orange flowers, lacking a pronounced scent.
After flowering, decorative blue-black or blue-grey berries are formed, which persist through winter. The plant is frost-hardy (USDA zone 6, withstands down to -20°C...-23°C), prefers partial shade or shade, and fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soils. It does not tolerate waterlogging and is used in single or group plantings, as well as in containers.
