The variety is also known under the names Rootsi Rosenhäger, Punane veiniõun, Talisuislepp, Punane muskaatõun, Svensk Rosenhäger, and Schwedischer Rosenhäger. It began to spread in the Baltic countries in the 17th century, when orchards were established on estates for apple export to Sweden. In the 19th century, it was widely distributed in Läänemaa and on the islands.

It belongs to winter apple varieties. Historically, it was propagated primarily by grafting onto wild apple trees Malus sylvestris. Precise data on tree height, resistance to specific diseases, or agrotechnical characteristics are absent in publications.
