The tree is medium-sized with a broadly conical crown that is easy to train. The fruits are large, weighing 160–220 g, and have a globose-conical shape. The skin is shiny and covered with an intense red-ruby blush. The flesh is yellow-cream, fine-grained, juicy, and crisp, with a sweet-and-sour taste and aroma.

The variety is characterized by resistance to drought, late spring frosts, scab, and fire blight, but it is sensitive to powdery mildew and susceptible to rots. The fruits ripen simultaneously and do not drop. When stored in a refrigerator, market qualities are maintained for up to 7 months.

Gala Galaxy is a clone of the Gala variety, which was obtained in New Zealand from crossing the Golden Delicious and Kidd's Orange Red varieties. The variety has an industrial purpose due to its high productivity.
