Variety description

10 August 2026

The tree is vigorous, forms a wide spreading crown, and is characterized by high winter hardiness. The variety possesses high resistance to scab and powdery mildew and shows moderate to low susceptibility to fire blight.

The fruits are small or medium-sized, about 120 g, round-flat in shape with slight ribbing. The skin is lemon-yellow, sometimes with a blush. The flesh is firm and juicy, distinguished by high sugar and acid content, because of which the variety is rarely consumed fresh.

Due to its vigor and compatibility with other varieties, Bittenfelder is widely used as a seed rootstock for high-stem trees. The fruits are suitable for making juices and apple wine, and the tree is valued in landscape design for the decorative nature of its crown and abundant flowering.
