The variety is an annual herbaceous plant of the Fabaceae family. It was selected from the spontaneous flora of Sardinia in the Pratosardo area in 1993 and underwent multi-year selection at an experimental farm.
The primary purpose of the variety is its use as a forage crop for extensive livestock farming on pastures. The plant is capable of self-seeding, which ensures long-term maintenance of the stand.
Studies confirm that the variety possesses an increased protein content compared to a number of clover species traditionally grown in the Mediterranean climate. The potential for its use in the phytoremediation of soils contaminated with heavy metals is also being studied.
