The Gilboa variety is a breeding strain of the Hairy Peruvian type, adapted for subtropical conditions. Plants reach a height of 60–75 cm and tolerate high summer temperatures well, provided there are mild winters. The variety is intended for cultivation on medium or heavy well-drained soils with a stand utilization period of 3–4 years.
Plants are distinguished by high growth intensity in the summer months, which allows for mowing every 30 days for hay production or every 23 days for alfalfa meal production. The produce is characterized by a high protein content. The variety is also used as a subject in scientific research on soil microbiology.
