The plant forms a dense tussock of narrow linear leaves 30–40 cm in height. During flowering, the height of the bush with flower stalks reaches 70–120 cm. The foliage is bright green during the growing season, acquiring a characteristic flame hue by autumn.
Flowering occurs from July to September with upright, open panicles featuring dark purple or yellow-brown flowers. The variety is winter hardy (zone 5, down to -28 °C), prefers sunny or semi-shaded locations and moist, moderately acidic soils, and retains its structural integrity in winter.
