The variety is widely used in genetic and breeding research conducted by the Italian Council for Agricultural Research and Economics to study mechanisms of rice protection against pathogens. It serves as a susceptible control when testing for susceptibility to bakanae disease.

Upon infection with the fungus Fusarium fujikuroi, plants of this variety exhibit suppression of defense mechanisms, in particular a decrease in the level of jasmonic acid, and excessive production of gibberellin by the pathogen, which leads to chlorosis, abnormal stem elongation, and death. In a number of experiments, the variety demonstrated relatively early maturity, however, detailed agronomic characteristics, such as grain type or morphological indicators, are not presented in a systematized form.
