The variety belongs to the group of low-morphine varieties bred in Sweden by the Svalöf institute. It was created as an oilseed crop characterized by a high linoleic acid content and the absence of erucic acid, which made it a valuable product for the food industry.

Plants of the Libra variety were used in breeding work as a parental component for developing new forms with improved alkaloid indices. Scientific research notes that when using this variety as a maternal form, plants may exhibit the trait of strongly dissected leaves.
