The Marianne variety is a food-grade opium poppy variety intended for seed production. The plant is characterized by a specific alkaloid profile in which the morphinan content is significantly reduced, while noscapine and narcotoline predominate in the latex. The seeds of the variety belong to the blue-seeded type and contain less than 10 ppm of morphine, which meets food industry standards.

Morphologically, the variety is distinguished by a large rosette size. The rosette leaves have pubescence; white spots are absent on them. In breeding and scientific practice, the variety is often used as a model object in genetic research and comparative trials due to the stable chemical composition of its alkaloids.
