The variety belongs to the subspecies Papaver somniferum subsp. euroasiaticum and the variety var. caesium. It was created within the framework of breeding programs in Macedonia aimed at improving local opium poppy populations.

Specialized data on its height, maturity group, or specific resistance to diseases or lodging is not provided in open sources. As of 2009–2019, it was noted that the purity of the Pioner seed stock was not maintained, and it has likely been lost as an active variety.
