The variety was obtained by crossing Phaseolus coccineus with bush forms of Phaseolus vulgaris followed by repeated backcrossing. Its main morphological feature is the determinate growth habit, which distinguishes it from the typical vining forms of this species.
The variety is intended for mechanical harvesting. Breeding work with it is aimed at improving culinary qualities, in particular the creation of fiberless pods, and increasing resistance to diseases.
