The variety is a vigorous climbing plant. The seeds are round-oval in shape, reach 10–15 mm in length, and are distinguished by a bicolored pattern: white with a reddish-brown design in the hilum area. The plant's flowers are white.
Bregenzer belongs to late-maturing varieties. Its primary purpose is the production of dry grain, though the variety can also be used at the green pod stage. It is a traditional landrace adapted to the conditions of the Vorarlberg region in Austria.
