The variety is a historical legacy of folk selection and is often identified with the Canadian Wonder type. Depending on the strain, the plant type varies from bush, reaching a height of 40 cm, to semi-vining, reaching 140–150 cm and requiring support.
The grains have a characteristic kidney shape and a rich burgundy color. The harvest is suitable for use as green beans at the milk stage or for shelling to obtain dry grain, which is suitable for various culinary dishes.
