The Akura variety belongs to the semi-leafless type (afila), in which leaflets are transformed into tendrils. Its primary purpose is for use in the processing industry.

The plant possesses resistance to Fusarium wilt, as well as to powdery mildew and downy mildew. The stem height of this variety varies within the range of 4 to 6 feet.
