The variety is the result of individual selection within a local landrace from Galicia. The plant is characterized by an indeterminategrowth habit and good early vigor. The variety is considered mid-season: flowering occurs 130 days after sowing, and harvesting of immature grain is possible after 150 days.
Bagoa Atlantic is suitable for producing both fresh and dry grain, but is most valued in its immature state. The seeds are small, have a characteristic teardrop shape, and are distinguished by high moisture content and levels of soluble solids. Under experimental conditions, the yield of immature grain is approximately 1000 kg/ha.
