This population formed in the arid climate of North Africa, particularly in Tunisia and Morocco. The plants are often propagated by seeds and are adapted to the specific environmental conditions of the region.

In horticulture, Mech-Mech is used both for obtaining small round fruits with a subacid taste and as a rootstock. As a rootstock, it is valued for its vigorous growth and resistance to chlorosis on calcareous soils, contributing to increased tree productivity and fruit size.
