The name Santeramo refers to the geographical origin of the almond samples — the town of Santeramo in Colle. This specimen is included in scientific germplasm collections for the study of Italian almond biodiversity.
In the literature, Santeramo is classified as a semi-hard shell almond. Varietal characteristics, such as yield or growth parameters, are unavailable, as the object is not a breeding variety in an agronomic sense.
In a number of publications, the name is mentioned in the context of monitoring the spread of the bacterium Xylella fastidiosa in the Puglia region as a site of detected infected trees.
