The Bennett-Hickman tree has a spreading canopy and is morphologically similar to the Nonpareil variety, differing by retaining green foliage for a longer period. The variety blooms approximately one week earlier than Nonpareil, with a total flowering period of about 34 days, and crop maturity occurs 14 days later.
The fruits are oval-shaped, large in size, and have a sweet taste with a low percentage of double kernels. The shell type is "paper-shell". The variety is not self-fertile and requires cross-pollination with the Nonpareil, Monterey, Butte, Sonora, Fritz, Padre, or Winters varieties; it is incompatible with Wood Colony.
The variety exhibits sensitivity to environmental bud failure, heat stress causing "non-productive" shoots, and is susceptible to damage by the pest Amyelois transitella, bacterial blight, and fungal diseases.
