The John Rivers tree is characterized as small and productive. The variety belongs to the early maturity group; the fruits are of medium size and have a greenish skin color. The fruit flesh is white, has a distinct sweet taste and aroma, and is tightly attached to the pit.
The variety has resistance to rot and has a low susceptibility to fruit spotting. At present, its commercial significance has decreased, but it retains value as a collection variety and genetic material for breeding new fruit crop hybrids.
