The Mantanghong variety, also known as "watermelon radish", belongs to the group of Chinese lobo radish. The plant forms round root vegetables with a diameter of 7–8 cm and a weight from 100 to 450 g. The skin is predominantly white with greenish "shoulders", the flesh has a bright pink or purple color, a crunchy texture and a sweetish taste.

The variety is frost-resistant and intended for winter cultivation. The best results are achieved when sowing in late summer or autumn, as the short daylight hours stimulate the growth of root vegetables. The produce is used fresh, for pickling and as a culinary garnish.
