The plant is a compact shrub with large leaves, buds, and flowers, which allows it to be grown in containers and small gardens. The variety is intended for ornamental purposes and, thanks to its early flowering times, is suitable for forcing.
The flowers of the variety have a characteristic serrated border. The frost resistance of the plant is down to –10 °C, which distinguishes it significantly from the original species Rhododendron catawbiense.
