The variety was obtained by crossing with a purple seedling. The flowers are of the semi-double type and have a saturated purple-red hue, classified on the RHS scale as 71D, with deeper purple-red markings (59B).
The variety is used in scientific research as an object for the analysis of flower pigment composition. In floriculture, it is known as a historical cultivar of German breeding, intended for use as a pot plant.
