Berries of the Alicant variety have a round shape and cherry-red color; the surface of the fruits is pubescent. The variety is distinguished by thin skin, which is almost imperceptible when consumed, and a sweet taste. The variety has been known in literature since the 19th century and is found in European genetic resource collections.
In 1940, a seedling was obtained in Estonia from the open pollination of this variety. Today, the variety is not a commercial standard and is preserved mainly in plant gene pool collections.
