The Drill variety is known as an old English gooseberry variety, mentioned in horticultural literature since the mid-19th century. In the early 20th century, it was used in breeding work as a parent form for the development of other gooseberry varieties.
Plants of this variety are characterized by low vigor and high susceptibility to powdery mildew. The fruits of the variety have a pear shape, smooth skin, and yellow color, and possess a sweet taste. Currently, the variety is practically absent from commercial catalogs and is preserved mainly in collections.
