The variety «Irene», belonging to the Optimara series by Holtkamp, is known as a subject of phytopathological research. In scientific literature, it is described as susceptible to the bacterial infection Erwinia chrysanthemi.
A separate variety «Irene» (author P. Cherry, 1986) is registered in the African Violet Society of America register, which is a semi-miniature chimera with blue-violet flowers.
