The variety Bona was created to produce plant raw materials used in pharmaceutical manufacturing. The main distinguishing feature is an increased concentration of salicylic glycosides in the bark, with levels reaching 11%, which significantly exceeds pharmacopeial requirements for medicinal raw materials.
The variety is the result of breeding work using DNA molecular analysis methods to identify the genes responsible for the synthesis of active substances. The plant is intended for cultivation on specialized plantations.
