The plant forms rosettes of leaves and has a mounded growth habit. The leaves are dark green on top and dark red on the underside, kidney-shaped with a serrated margin. Purple-red star-shaped flowers with white stamens are located on peduncles rising above the foliage.
Flowering begins in September. The variety has a vigorous growth rate, prefers semi-shaded or shaded areas with moist, well-drained soil. It is used as a groundcover, for rock gardens, group plantings, and container cultivation.
