The variety has the status of an heirloom of Russian origin, often associated with the variety «Черномор». Maturity period is 75–80 days after transplanting or 105–120 days from germination. The plant exhibits heterogeneity in growth type descriptions, occurring in forms from determinate to indeterminate, with height varying from 1 to 1.7 m. The leaf type can be either regular or potato leaf.

Fruits are oblate, often with slight ribbing, with a weight from 150 to 600 g. Fruit color is burgundy-brown, chocolate, or dark purple with olive-green shoulders. The flesh is dark, fleshy, with a small amount of seeds. The purpose of the variety is for fresh consumption (salad).

The plant requires staking due to the heavy weight of the fruits. The variety is considered hardy, with resistance to tobacco mosaic virus noted. Due to its origin as a folk selection variety, traits may differ depending on the seed stock.
