The plant belongs to the "double dwarf" type and is characterized by a thick, strong stem with moderate tillering. The long cylindrical panicles are characterized by a dense structure and the presence of awns. The leaves at maturity have a characteristic glossy sheen caused by a waxy bloom.

The grain of the variety has a deep red color, while the glumes have a blackish tint. Historically, the variety demonstrated a smaller grain size, unstable yield, and a high susceptibility to lodging compared to modern hybrids.
