The variety Mataco is characterized by a mid-early maturity group with flowering occurring 65 days after emergence. The plant possesses good foliage and the ability to produce multiple tillers, which allows for several cuts per season.

The plant is noted for high stability of development and resistance to drought conditions. Thin and juicy stems, rich in sugars, provide high palatability of the forage for livestock. The produce can be used as green fodder, hay, silage, or haylage.
