Patton is a semi-savoy type hybrid with dark green succulent leaves. The vegetation period is about 42 days. The plant is characterized by the ability for good regeneration after cutting and is intended both for fresh market sale and for industrial processing.

The variety possesses pronounced resistance to downy mildew (Peronospora farinosa f. sp. spinaciae, races 1–15, 17) and is being researched for resistance to Fusarium wilt. It belongs to cold-tolerant "dual-season" varieties suitable for cultivation at different times of the year, including in unheated greenhouses.
