The variety belongs to the group of red-veined spinach, which is characterized by the presence of red pigment on leaf veins. The plant possesses a well-developed leaf mass; according to field trial results, its mass exceeds that of the Bordeaux variety but is lower than that of the Polar Bear variety. The petiole length of Red Deer is greater than that of the USDA Red variety.

In herbicide resistance trials, the variety demonstrated zero survival when treated with linuron. Detailed data on maturity group, exact plant height, and disease resistance are absent in open publications.
