The plant is a large shrub or tree with a height of 4 to 8 meters and a crown width of 3 to 8 meters. Young specimens have an upright-oval shape, which becomes wider with age with drooping shoots. The variety is characterized by a moderate growth rate of about 20–30 cm per year.
A distinctive feature is the glossy foliage: in full sun it acquires a dark purple or purple-black color, in the shade it becomes olive-green or bronze, and in autumn it turns purple-red. Flowering occurs in June–July with white bell-shaped flowers with a light fragrance on purple-red pedicels. In late summer, small oval drupes appear.
The variety is winter-hardy and prefers wind-protected areas with moist, well-drained soils of acidic or slightly acidic reaction. The plant is used in landscape design as a solitary plant or an accent element, is resistant to high temperatures and does not require frequent pruning.
